Post too much ink? Ideas to reduce ink load
I recently got an email asking about ways to cut down on the MES-ink load. I have been working on ways for teachers to reduce the amount of ink needed and here are a few ways.

If you want to save some ink on the bingo cards, you can use the bingo board maker at That will make bingo cards without the backings. The board also uses slightly less color.

If you'd like to save ink on the small game cards, you can use the handout maker at That will make some small game cards without backings. You just have to cut them out.

You can use colored construction paper for the backings by gluing the cards on to them or laminating them with the construction paper as the backing.

Also, within Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can print more than one flashcard per page. You can print any number you want and the program will reduce the size of the picture and cut down on ink. Here's how to do that ... ?p=481#481

That will make smaller flashcards and you can actually make game cards that way too.

Usually, when you hit print, you get a print window that pops up with different options. If you go into your printer settings or printer options, you should have an option for making images lighter or darker. I don't really recommend bleaching the pictures too much, but making the document lighter before printing should save on some ink.

The last option is to print some of the cards black and white from time to time to save ink. You might want to make them a bit lighter (as written above) before you do that or you might have some really dark areas.

Build up! Be positive! Teach hard!
